Other Popular Services

This service provides an assessment of a piano’s condition, as well as recommendations and estimates for further work. It’s recommended for two different types of customers:

  1. Those who would like to get a second-hand piano checked over prior to purchase.
  2. Those considering larger-scale work (i.e. work lasting at least one full day), who would like a clearer idea of costs and options.

Provided that at least a full day’s work is subsequently carried out, 50% of the appraisal fee will be deducted from your final bill.

This service tackles the most common causes of sticking and non-repeating keys. It involves lubrication of all action centre pins, and the easing/lubrication of key bushings and balance holes as appropriate.

This service involves everything from the Basic Friction Reduction above, but goes further to tackle other sources of sluggishness and unwanted mechanical noise throughout the piano.

This is the minimum charge for any visit to your piano.

The same fee also applies for late cancellations and missed appointments. Please see Terms & Conditions for more information.

Travel Charges

To cover motoring costs, Travel Charges apply for all appointments outside Swansea and its neighbouring areas. The map below provides a rough guide for the surcharge to expect in any given location. If you would like to clarify a Travel Charge before or after booking your appointment, please simply ask.

Please Note: Whenever I am able to schedule two or more jobs in a similar area for the same day, any Travel Charges will be appropriately split between all customers. So if you know someone nearby who’d also like their piano tuned, then please do co-ordinate and book in together.

Additional Charges

Extra charges most frequently apply to cover parts & supplies or emergency/out-of-hours bookings. At such times, these charges will always be agreed with you in advance. However, please note that some uncommon piano designs are inherently more time-consuming to tune and service. Consequently, the price of standard tasks may need to be adjusted accordingly.

Such designs include:

  • Certain compact pianos (for example, the original Eavestaff ‘Minipiano’ and the Kemble ‘Minx’)
  • Blüthner grand pianos featuring their patented action design (manufactured between 1885-1925)
  • Any pianos featuring oblong-shaped tuning pins, rocker capstans or tied actions (the latter two are most often found in older Bechstein models)
